Vinyl Flooring – How to Keep It Looking Brand New!

When it’s clean, fresh looking and still glossy – vinyl flooring makes the home feel attractive and beautiful!
So, let’s talk tips on keeping it looking that way!
Firstly, the shine!
Keeping that shine is key to keeping that fresh feel in the home but there is an art to cleaning it in a way that keeps it feeling new. Following some of these easy cleaning techniques is the path to brightness and freshness with your new Vinyl Flooring.
- Dust particles do stick to vinyl flooring, so you need to remove them by sweeping it with a soft bristle broom daily.
- Avoid using your vacuum cleaner, but if OCD gets the better of you and you feel the urge to vacuum (and let’s face it, it happens to the best of us) make sure you don’t use the bleater bar on the vacuum, it can make scratches in your luxury vinyl flooring which will haunt you every time you reach for the Vac!!!
- When it comes to mopping the floor, this is a guaranteed shine enhancing mixture you should be using – A neutral pH cleaner and water that is lukewarm. You could also use equal parts of lukewarm water and vinegar to mop the floor. This mixture will also help to eliminate any types of foul odours and keep the vinyl looking slick!
- Using powerful bleach or detergent can make the floor sticky and attract more dust. Wherever possible use a milder cleaning product such as a dedicated vinyl floor cleaning solution. They’re not at all expensive and worth every penny. Designed to repel dust and give the floor a longer lasting shine.
- Stains, tough ones too…We all get them. Something gets spilled, not immediately noticed and then the following day its set solid – If you have a stubborn stain wet the area with a solution of water and mild dish washing liquid. Leave it for 20 minutes to soften up then just wipe it up with a dry cotton cloth but remember, it’s always best to do this when the floor is free from little feet running around as you don’t want them slipping and getting the cleaning products on their little toes this goes for our little fury friends too!
- You can always add some warm water with a spoonful of clear ammonia to tackle tough stains but again ensure if you use this solution that you thoroughly rinse the area to remove the thin film left behind on your luxury vinyl flooring from the ammonia.
- Most importantly, when it comes to stains, if something does get spilled on your vinyl flooring just wipe it up immediately because certain detergent and bleach can damage your shine!! So wipe it up quick and where possible use a use a floor polish that’s recommended!
