The New Trends of 2021

2020 was an interesting year, to say the least. Banana bread baking, zoom quiz’s and face masks became the new normal. Plus, we all had to adapt our lives to keep each other safe and help out our wonderful NHS. Flooring Direct also experienced an upsurge in people buying vinyl floors, laminate flooring and artificial grass back in the summer!
However, 2021 is a brand-new year full of potential. It is time to go on those adventures we missed out on. Also, we can fill our beautiful homes with a fresh new interior.
Flooring Direct Predictions for 2021
At Flooring Direct we predict that 2021 interior design will begin to move away from neutral minimalism. Start to experiment with the use of new fun textures and colours.
So, without further ado here are the trends we think will be big in 2021.
Maximalism
In 2020 we saw minimalist interior take over social media. This Nordic-inspired trend meant light neutral shades took precedence. All our mess was crammed up into a small cupboard in the corner.

However, 2021 has seemed to inspire fresh new ideas, and so colours such as blue, orange and green are set to be a big hit during the year. Home accessories and wall art will no longer be seen as useless clutter and we can finally relax about a mug resting on the side table.
Geometric patterns of Flooring Direct
Though minimalism was the focus of 2020, it seemed that towards the end of the year patterned flooring started to break the mould, as it became a huge trend in of itself.

We expect this trend to continue growing in 2021, with a specific rise in geometric patterned flooring. Think flooring that tricks the eye, flooring that provides interest and intrigue.
Natural elements
As we see interior styles start to develop from last year, it is important to recognise those that seem to be sticking around for at least another year.
One of these, is the use of natural materials. Materials found in nature such as wood and stone are set to stay a huge trend during 2021 and potentially even 2022.

However, what seems to stand out, is that the use of these natural materials has seemingly swung to more of an industrialised approach, incorporating elements of mental and concrete alongside these natural materials.
Colourful Artwork
During 2020, artwork seemed to focus on minimal, classic styles and monochrome shades. However, as we enter the new year artwork seems to incorporate bold colours and busier patterns.
Although it is always important to balance bold colours with neutral shades to avoid making a room seem smaller, we love how experimental this new style feels and we are excited to see it making its way into peoples homes.
Black is the new grey
Grey seemed to be the standout colour of 2020, whether that be for walls, floorings, furnishings or furniture! However, during 2021 it is predicted that many of us will start incorporating black elements into our homes.

Though caution must be used when using such a dark, bold shade, if done correctly it can make a room look beautiful and adds something different as opposed to your basic light shades.
Unique furniture
Furniture is such a fun way to play around with how a house looks. Different furniture really can transform a room, and in 2020 we saw furniture incorporate light shades and simple shapes.

However, as we move into the new year we can see more curved shapes and more experimental shades taking over, providing a beautiful statement for any home.
