Love Pets? Find Flooring To Suit
As much as we love our pets, they can cause havoc on the flooring in our homes. Whether you have a cat that’s got a habit of using your expensive carpets as a scratch post or your dog enjoys playing on the grass in your garden before utilising your kitchen as a wash room – choosing the right flooring can make being a pet owner a whole lot easier.
Inside Your Home
When choosing flooring for inside your home that you share with your beloved pets, you may need to compromise comfort to make way for flooring that’s more durable. Whilst carpets offer a sense of luxury underfoot and are perfectly fine for areas such as your bedroom, or living areas if you have impeccably-behaved pets, they’re susceptible to stains when used in certain parts of your home from dirt and spills. However, compromising on comfort doesn’t mean you’ll be losing out on style, alternatives to carpet enhance your home decor and can be a worthy investment.
Without a shadow of a doubt, vinyl flooring has to be one of our favourites when it comes to pets. Vinyl flooring is not only 100% waterproof – meaning it resists spills and can be cleaned easily with a damp mop – it also offers additional comfort underfoot compared to other alternatives such as laminate and wood flooring. This added softness makes our pets’ steps quieter than they would be on hard surfaces. Take a look at our full collection of vinyl flooring – with a range to suit every budget.
However, other types of flooring should be considered too. Whilst vinyl flooring is our first choice for rooms such as the kitchen and bathroom, we prefer flooring such as laminate or wood in rooms where we spend the most time, such as the living room. Laminate flooring is still great for pets as it comes with a scratch-resistant coating and and spills can be taken care of easily. However, laminate flooring isn’t as good as absorbing sound as vinyl, so you may find that you can hear your pets walking around. The scratch resistant surface also makes the surface very smooth; which means it doesn’t provide much grip for your pets.
Garden & Outdoors
It’s not only the flooring in your home you need to think about when you have a pet. If your pet ventures out into the garden at any point, they can end up dirty and covered in mud – especially during winter and transitional months. Bog-ridden lawns are the main culprit for creating a muddy environment for pets to play in but luckily there is an easy solution to fix this – with artificial grass offering many advantages over traditional lawn.
Why is artificial grass so much better than real turf for pets?
-
- The surface is easy cleanable – just use water and a brush to clean off any dirt.
-
- Doesn’t cause water accumulation – integrated drainage holes in the latex backing allow water to drain away easily from the surface.
-
- You don’t need to worry about your pet getting harmed from pesticides, weed killer and fertilizer that you use on real turf.
- It won’t freeze over in the winter – so your pet can play on the ‘lawn’ all year-round.
