Engineered Wood Floor – Your Questions Answered!

So, you do you want to know whether engineered wood floor is for you? We’re sure you are already halfway there to being convinced, but let us tell you the facts surrounding engineered floor.

Investing in engineered wood has many benefits for the home in comparison to solid wood floor.

At Flooring Direct, we pride ourselves in offering a wide variety of engineered floor, featuring different hardwood final veneers. Engineered wood consists of layers of timber with the hardwood final veneer on the upper surface.

Let’s run through the questions you need to answer before purchasing your floor.

Where will I be Installing Engineered Floor?

Firstly, this a very important question you’ll need to consider before purchasing composite wood floor. Engineered wood flooring is incredibly versatile and is suitable for many rooms in your home, including those with underfloor heating. Let’s have a look at the rooms this includes:

Rooms Suitable for Hardwood Flooring

Alternatively, if you opt for hard wood flooring as opposed to engineered wood, this would not be suitable for many areas. Specifically those exposed to moisture, and those with underfloor heating. As a result, engineered wood allows you to have the freedom to integrate a wooden floor aesthetic throughout your home, regardless of the room! We love the idea of fitting the same floor within multiple rooms to create cohesion throughout your home and our composite wooden flooring allows you to do exactly that!

I have Underfloor Heating, is this ok?

Yes! Engineered wood flooring is one of few flooring options available if you have underfloor heating. Solid wood would not be suitable with this. We recommend gradually increasing the temperature of your wooden floor by approximately 1 degree at a time, meaning the wood can adjust to the change in temperature which shouldn’t exceed 27 degrees Celsius. Also, so heat can pass through, we recommend a maximum thickness of 18mm per board.

Is Engineered Wood Water-Resistant?

Our lacquered engineered wooden flooring is suitable for bathrooms and other rooms where leaks or spillages could happen! Clean any spillages as quickly as possible!

Now you know why you should choose engineered wood for your home, due to its sustainability, longevity, and usability. Let’s compare the different woods we have at flooring direct and how each can differ between products with different finishes.

Walnut and Oak Flooring

Finishes:

Flooring Finishes

OILED / STAINED: Coated with a stain, oiled floors naturally have a matte finish.

BRUSHED: This means the wood itself is brushed with a wire brush to emphasise the natural beauty of the wood and grain.

LACQUERED: Glossy finish provided by a layer on top of the wood.

UNFINISHED: Untreated wood, and you are able to add your own finish.

HAND CARVED: The wood is precisely carved by hand to create an aged and textured finish.

Can I have this flooring if I have pets?

The lacquer provides extra protection from scratches, stains, and spillages. If you have pets, engineered wood floor is the ideal option. Mucky paws are easily cleared up and accidents in the home will not feel as punishing.
