Entrance Matting from Flooring Direct http://www.flooringdirect.co.uk/rss/1/productlistings/entrance-matting/cat57
Coir matting is a traditional and effective barrier matting made from Natural Fibres (Coconut) to give a high level of dirt and moisture removal suitable for indoor use or over a covered porch area that isn’t exposed to the elements. It comes in various thicknesses and despite the most common colour being a natural brown it can also be dyed very easily and is now available in a choice of colours from bright red, green and some manufacturers now produce a stripe effect design.

Coir, or coconut fibre, is a natural fibre that is extracted from the husk of a coconut and used in products such as Door mats and floor mats, brushes and mattresses. Coir is the fibrous material found between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut. Brown coir which is produced from a ripe coconut is thick, strong and has high abrasion resistance which makes it ideal to use to make matting, it is also used in upholstery padding, sacking and horticulture. Coir that is harvested from unripe coconuts is known as white coir, this is used for making string, rope fishing nets and finer brushes but is also weaker so is often spun to make yarn that can also be used to make mats.

The fibres can be hand spun to produce coir yarn or the more modern method is to spin the yarn mechanically to ensure a uniform and regular pattern with minimal fibre loss. Coir is a natural material that looks great, offers excellent durability, and absorbs a great deal of dirt and moisture, and is one of very few natural fibres that is resistant to damage by saltwater. Some coir mats can absorb up to eight litres of water per square metre – an unrivalled performance which is huge benefit to having coir matting and means you will save on cleaning costs.
Copyright 2026 Flooring Direct en Fri, 09 Oct 2026 00:58:10 +0100 Fri, 09 Oct 2026 00:58:10 +0100 Fri, 09 Oct 2026 00:58:10 +0100 Anthracite Ribbed Matting Anthracite Ribbed Matting
